So Move It On Over, Drag It On Over

Long story short we have two rooms in our tiny apartment. P thought it would be best to finally switch the rooms around so the layout makes better sense. Our bedroom was a foot from the front door but we live on a main street and it is so noisy that you almost can't fathom sleeping in the front room.
However, in the winter with the windows closed and a white noise machine, its doable. We'll have to cross the spring bridge when we come to it. So, we commenced to switching it all around and I put up the pictures and paintings today. Got it all set.

One perk was that I was able to make a tiny eating area and a little country corner that bleeds out from my teeny kitchen. This was inspired by a crocheted fruit bowl cover that my mother in law sent me as a gift. Sweet! This provides me with space for my Cuisinart, blender, mixer, spices, etc.

It was a lot more work than I would have wished for on my day off, dragging everything around, but I do have to say Patrick was right to push it. He did move the heavy stuff but his support ended there. Thank goodness I had my leftover Thai to heat up and refuel before tackling the bedroom.

Que Sera Sera, Whatever Will Be Will Be

Wealth is relative. We do not have lots of money. But we do have what we need and some of what we want, which is wealth to me. We both hate to shop so that might be part of the lack of material things. We both love to work hard but not at anything stupid or pointless. We certainly don't want to spend time chasing the dollar in this short life. Or any.

However, we have our minor indulgences just like the next guy. Because we are also rich in amazing take-out restaurants... Hollah! Go Brooklyn! ...once in awhile when we're both feeling a little beaten up by the city and life and the voices in our heads, we order up a trio of entrees from National Thai. Within 20 minutes, one of my Mexican brothers will show up at the door with their signature clear bags filled with THE BEST Thai food you can get and for a fraction of the price. The curry, especially the green coconut is memorable like seriously. The pork with pineapple fried rice is choice and perfect alongside the silky spicy noodles with beef. Three dishes will feed six so plenty for leftovers.

When I was little my mother didn't tell me to find a rich man, she said to find a good person and that's what I did. Not perfect mind you, but inherently good.

Why Me Lord?

I say this now to you and the world. I am not worthy to have been blessed with all the good food that I've eaten here on this earth. I know this to be true. I never would have dreamed I could someday phone in this meal I'm eating today for a very small amount of money and feel the tremendous satisfaction and joy, the excitement and wonderment.

Foods here in New York can be like the great paintings from Da Vinci, Michelangelo, El Greco. And I'm just talking the neighborhood spots, not even the high end Chef restaurants. These cooks are cranking out treasures, classics, gems... daily and for cheap! They are masterpieces and yet a dumb shlep like me can just call up and within minutes be enjoying it in my dirty sweats and Target bunny socks.

I don't have money or material things, just enough to barely get by usually. But I've been rich in flavor opportunities and variety of foods. I've done nothing to deserve any of this pleasure. I've only wished for it and it came. For that I'll be forever grateful.

You Make Me So Very Happy

In the last couple of years that National Thai has been open here in Fort Greene, we've been blessed to get smokin' hot amazing dishes delivered for a very reasonable price. They even use these super sturdy plastic containers that I've kept and now reuse for all my leftovers. Got a whole set. But the very last time we ordered from them the curtain came crashing down. It wasn't bad, it still tasted good, but it wasn't spectacular. And they forgot my rice. Spectacular Thai food grabs you by the shirt collar and slaps you about the face until you're sure you're alive. It's invigorating. Your nose is running, you're breathing passages are cleared. It's restorative. Non-spectacular Thai is a dud firecracker. Like I said, it only happened once but it was a risk to order again and take the chance. But National did not disappoint tonight. And God bless 'em, it was a Monday when you can really benefit from anything that doesn't suck. Fireworks, slapping, the whole nine yards. The Pork and Pineapple Fried Rice was a dream and a real surprise. The Beef with Green Curry is the real super star. The Kang Kyo Whan Nuur. With just the right heat, lemongrass, coconut, curry. And the vegetables, the eggplant, plenty of bamboo shoots, carrots and peppers and finally the thin sliced beef. Thank you National Thai for coming through for us in our time of need.
