You know what I love about the food universe? That there is a whole world of sandwich possibilities that exists. Its out there and you can go visit it any time you got the wild hair. It's not just an island off the meal continent but its own whole planet. Breads of every origin and texture to choose from. The meats, the vegetables, and the spreads. Cheeses! All the cheese options. Should it be toasted, grilled or served cold? Open faced? I don't know - let's do them all! It's all about the choices and then building the perfect outcome. Combining ingredients that we know play so well together or taking risks and inventing new ones. You always win in sandwich world. Also, it's totally laid back there. No one cares about perfect or foo foo, everyone is like 'oh cool man, you made me a sandwich! - that sounds great!' There's no commitment. You can pick it up and take it with you. I got a picnic ham bone piece thing. Hell I'm not sure what they called it but it looked like a good deal and like it had enough meat on it to make a good sandwich and then maybe be used as a soup bone. I roasted it for an hour and got it all juicy and hot. I used the leftover herbs I had for my pork tenderloin the night before and made a nice garlic herb butter spread for my new favorite bread, Ciabatta. Sliced white onions and tomatoes went next. I sliced the tender portions of the ham and added jalapeno jack cheese slices. I wrapped this up in foil and toasted for 20 minutes on 350. Yes, yes, and yes. It was basically a toasted ham and cheese but man just using the good bread and the fresh herbs brought it from good to oh man that's so good! I want to say it was a kiss from your grandma. It was your first love. It was James Brown's horn section playing in your mouth while a thousand fluffy kittens kneaded your soul.
